Hi,
My name is Thomas Bisson, and I’m the founder of Chigwell Personal Training.
That was the moment (above) I decided enough was enough. I was going to lose weight and become the strongest version of myself.
I spent countless hours reading books, taking courses and testing workouts out in the gym.
After all that time I finally found a method that worked. But it didn’t work for everyone in the same way it did for me…
After another 7 years of tweaking, refining and adapting I can now say I have developed my method to a level that works for most people.
After working with hundreds of clients I began to notice something strange…
Often, when new clients came in, they had certain beliefs about health and fitness.
I asked questions and listened to their stories, and I soon began to understand why they struggled to keep any results they had previously achieved.
There was a pattern…
Certain beliefs in fitness ‘myths’ kept appearing…
Myth #1 Exercise = punishment
I thought of exercise as a punishment for my body.
As a way of punishing myself for all the food I had eaten.
Punishing myself for misbehaving. When I exercised I felt like I deserved the pain.
I’m not alone in this…
Some people think they need to punish themselves through exercise.
This exactly what most personal trainers sell to you. They want you to come in and do a 6 or 12 week transformation. At the end of which you are left to your own devices.
Most people get a personal trainer for a few months… and then slip back to their old ways right after.
They see-saw up and down in fitness.
Shouldn’t there be a better way? (There is, keep reading)…
myth #2 All personal trainers are the same
I used to think all FOOD was the same too…
I thought that a Sunday roast… was just a Sunday Roast… It just doesn’t compare to anything else.
My favourite meal of the week.
All prepared by my grandmother.
Is it the sweet tasting gravy?
Or the crisp the roast potatoes?….I don’t know.
But I found that everywhere I went the Roast dinners were different. They weren’t the same as the one I knew and loved. Because the food was not prepared in the same way.
This is just like a personal trainer…
Many people think that all personal trainers are the same…
That we’re are all sadists who are here to beat you into shape.
Just here to cause you pain…
Just like my Nan and her Roast dinner… personal trainers are all very different.
myth #3 “working out should suck”
I punished myself through exercise for many years.
I would feel angry at myself for eating something I thought was “naughty”… and force myself into the gym to try and remedy this.
If you HATE your work outs.. I guarantee that you won’t be on the path too long.
You might sustain it for a few days.. or weeks.. or months.. But eventually almost everyone slips back.
What’s the secret?
People who get fit and stay fit for life almost always have the same thing in common.
They learn to enjoy exercise and nutrition.
Simple huh?… Here’s why it’s harder than it sounds…
Some people already grow up like this - well done them. Well done to their parents.
That wasn’t me..
I had to make a 180 degree change in my life.
Everyone who makes that change later in life starts in exactly the same way.
With a decision that they want to change their life. They decide that they don’t want to hate exercise any more.
They choose to learn about food, and find out what works for them.
They commit to furthering their lives over the long term.
Enjoy the process… That is the secret. Learn, and Enjoy.
